And A Play

This is mostly, purely, 100% fictional but you never know which elements are culled from reality.

(Guy enters from stage left; spots Girl behind counter. The stage is noisy and bright, as this is a restaurant at busy-time.)

GUY: OH GOSH, HEY! Didn’t expect to see you here…

GIRL: Um. Yeah. Well I told you I worked here, silly! I’m actually surprised you even remembered! But what’s up?

GUY: Oh, you know, not much. Took what turned out to be a really inconvenient way to where I was going in order to casually bump into you here, but we can pretend the fifteen-minute walk I have ahead of me is purely incidental, right?

GIRL: True. Well how’s that thing you’re doing going?

GUY: (Gushing) Oh my GOSH it’s so great and I love it! How’s your thing?

GIRL: Well — *gestures around her as she is clearly very busy.*

GUY: *stupified staring, glances back and forth between the register where he has ordered and girl’s face*

GIRL: This isn’t awkward yet, but it has about 5 seconds until it will be.

GUY: Oh yeah. Well if you could use those five seconds to maybe give me your phone number that would…

(INTERRUPTED BY A CUSTOMER. Grab your coffee and back away, awkwardly.)
